July Progress Report for Website 2 (also my total progress with blogging)
Hello everyone, I guess I will try to keep up with a monthly progress report for my second site. To start off I will just explain where I am in the blogging game and then go from there.
How I Started
I just started learning how to blog this year. I watched a ton of videos and then jumped right in. Technically my first website was a flop, it was a financial website that got 7 articles, and then I decided it wasn’t the right niche for me.
That website is this website. I’ve finally transferred it from Wix to WordPress and put the articles on here. I don’t think they have a chance in hell to rank but I spent time and money on them so they are being posted haha.
The first real site that I count as my first site is doing excellent. I am 4 months in and it has 95 articles. It is generating over 11k visits and has made $185 in July. It made $175 in June so it is doing really well. Hopefully, I will break $200 in august but we will see.
Anyway, that’s my progress so far. Now let’s look at month one of my fresh domain/website and you can all follow along with my progress. I made a YouTube video for it, but it is kind of blurry, I need to adjust my OBS settings I think.
Sorry for the blurriness I need to work on it (I’m new to this lol)
Month 1 (July) Stats
Articles | 11 |
Organic sessions | 7 |
Total sessions | 387 |
Earned Revenue | $10.02 |
Expenses | $127 (+87.16) |
Net | $-204.14 |
The 87.16 is the startup costs including a domain name and a logo. The 127 is the cost of articles. I’m trying to do a 50/50 on this site, I write half and hire half. I’d like to write even more if I can to keep the costs down on this site. I really want this site to be ROI positive really fast. I’m in the hole almost 3k on my first site so I really need to keep costs down until it starts picking up.
My goal is to write 1 article a week and then hire 1 a week. If I have more time I will do more but I am still making content for site 1 (2 a week) so that is around 4 articles per week. I still have a full-time job so that is a lot for me.
The reason my total sessions are so high is that I made a post on Reddit that did very well. It was basically a beginner buying guide and this niche is growing in popularity so lots of noobies. They ate it up and made some purchases. I made a nice $10 in commissions which was amazing. I made another post a week later but it didn’t do quite as good. I will post every now and then when I think it will generate some traffic. but my main focus is on SEO and organic traffic.
Let me know if there is anything else I should be including in these reports for next time. I am still getting the hang of it and hopefully, I didn’t do too bad. I hope this helps someone and encourages you to get started.
Thanks for reading,
see you next month
Month 2 (August) Income Report
Hello, we made it to month two of my second site. I am noticing a bit of traction both in terms of organic impressions as well as a few clicks. I’ve also been lucky to make a few sales already but that is because of my posting on Reddit within my niche (the group allows links if done correctly)
I didn’t make any money this month, but I did make 2 sales on the very last day. However, I won’t get commission until the item ships so that will be in next month’s report. I think it will probably be a couple of dollars.
Here are the stats for this month:
Articles | 9 |
Organic sessions | 19 |
Total sessions | 184 |
Earned Revenue | $0 (2 sales at the end) |
Expenses | $205.25 |
Net | $-205.25 |
Overall I think this site is doing as expected. One annoying thing I’ve noticed is YouTube is showing up for a lot of my keywords.
There also isn’t really blogs going after these keywords so I am hoping that my content can outrank these youtube videos as they don’t really answer the targetted questions, but time will only tell.
I will continue to write one article a week, and purchase one a week to have a total of 2 per week or 8 a month. (more or less).
I’m not sure how long I will keep posting content. I think I will get this site to 30-40 articles and then let it sit for a few months and see if it’s worth continuing.
I’m just on the fence because of all the YouTube results on the SERPs.
Thanks for keeping up.
Month 3 (September) Stats
Hello, we made it to month three of my second site. I’m slowly seeing my site rank better and better over time. I’m also seeing more organic clicks per day and am even getting 5 or 6 on some days which is more then I’ve had on one day.
I’m planning to pause on content creation for this site and just let it sit for a few months and see what happens. I have another site idea I’m planning out that I will work on for the next 3-6 months and then I will revisit this site and review the progress.
So maybe expect one more monthly report next month for this site and then you will see a new monthly report and I’m calling it “Site LFL” for the initials of the site. (Not revealing the name)
Here are the stats for this month:
Articles | 8 |
Organic sessions | 41 |
Total sessions | 385 |
Earned Revenue | $6.08 |
Expenses | $185.25 |
Net | $-179.17 |
For three months in I think the site is doing ok. My first site was performing much better by this time but I’m sure that’s because I was posting more content. Having multiple sites now means each one will be growing a bit slower but I like being diversified and working on just one site got really boring.
Like I’ve said before, the biggest problem with this niche is that there are so many youtube videos being created and ranking one the SERPS. There isn’t much blog content so I’m hoping that’s the reason blogs aren’t ranking.
My home page is on page 2 of google for desktop and page 1 for mobile so I’m definitely doing SEO right. I don’t want to pour any more time or money into this project until I see how it does, then I will produce more if It’s worth it.
I’m excited to start my next project and I think I’ve successfully planted a good seed here. It’s now up to the Google Gods to show me some love in the SERPS lol.
